Finished packing the Duel Cab this afternoon, only the frozen food left to go in. I took a short trip out into the Blue Mountains National Park to get away fro power lines to test the HF. The truck needed a lot of right foot on some steep sections that I used to cruse up in the Fronteria.
Is this normal ?
Heading off on Friday for the trip to Warraweena & Simpson.

Hi Vince
Yes they don't have much of a low range and you do need to get the engine reving to go anywhere but once up there they have a fair bit of poke. Mine has exhaust done and a dp chip fitted and it makes a big difference, will be at warraweena in july and you are welcome to take it for a spin if you want.

Obviously a D40, My D22 will go up anything ( sort of ) ,, but gotta keep tickling up the turbo, without jeopardising safety and speed, and power,, but it can be done.
Cheers

NO Bucky it's a D22. I had to really give it a heap or revs before letting the clutch out to even get it moving. In low range it was OK so it looks like a Chip when I get back.

Another thought would be to consider a Hyclone, not for its " fuel savings " ( ho Hum ) , but they are supposed to bring on the turbo at least 500 revs earlier,,

Could be handy in hilly stuff, to keep it out of the lag zone ,,

If this is so, it would be a whole lot cheaper option than a DS chip !

Take the centre muffler out Vince or go for a 3" mandrel exhaust will spool the turbo up earlier.

I took the centre muffler out until i go for the 3"

Saw that Baz, so going to look & see where we can get to when we get closer to the area. May even go down via Burra as we have not been there for about 4 years. A case of sucking & see.

I did a search on Hyclone , on this forum and found some interesting reading,
I might retract that statement that a Hyclone may be beneficial.

Hyclone are about $180,, most forum users dislike them,, maybe on the old engines, non turbo,,
I just thought it could have been a cheep alternative to get the turbo spinning earlier on the steep stuff.

I had our D22 back to Nissan a couple of occasions, to fix the " Turbo Lag ", mine was shocking. Actually let it go till it got to 15,000 km, to let it run in a little ( brought brand spanking new Sep 2003. )

All I got from the head machanic was there is nothing wrong with it, but I will teach you to drive a turbo diesel. Brag, brag, crap crap crap !

So I let him take me out and he crapped on about this and that, and when we got back to the garage I told him I have driven Concrete Trucks , Tippers, and semi trailers, for a living, he went as white as a ghost.
I turned around and told them to get stuffed, as I did not like being bullshyted to.

Had it on a Dyno within a week and " presto " no more turbo lag !
Heaps more go, problem fixed..

Now the only other thing I have had done to it was to put a 2 1/2 " exhaust on it.
But some of the patrons on ExplorOz tell me that I could have made it 3" and took it right back to the turbo outlet flange, to get the maximum benefits, but I am happy with the difference that it made, as we left a bit of the engine pipe on it..

Cheers Mate
