Dear helpful explorozites,
Have ordered Firestone helper airbags for my troopy, to cope with S. African made bumper replacement carrier, 168L sub
tank and usual payload of kit... With a fair bit of experience with Toymotas and Landy coil springs saggin I thought the leafs on the troopy would not need touching - cost me enough already!!!! What do you reckon? Also where I amm it is easier to get any Toyo parts than any aftermarket kit. I would really appreciate feedback from anyone with similar set-up?
Cheers,
Gil

The standard
suspension on any 4B is not up to the conditions here, so an upgrade of springs and shocks is always going to be better in the long run.
A good set of OME leafs and Gabrial or Munroe shocks should work
well.

The Airbag is a good way to just give the
suspension that little help when towing, but for the long term solution I feel it is like a band-aid fix,What do you do when the Airbag gets a hole in it, I worked with a Kenworth that done 3 little airbags that supports the Sleeper and Cab over a period of 12 months, so I also go along with all the others who tell you OME ,
Mine are really great.

Gil, the Firestone bellows type airbags are good quality & most have no issues with them. They are
well matched to the standard springs of Cruisers & particually usefull for those that drive them empty for alot of the time then load them right up for the big trips. Replacing the rear springs with heavy duty units capable of carrying the full load normally compromises the ride & handling when empty. 40 psi in the bags (100psi max) will level around 1.2 tonne of gear so they certainly aren't being stressed to their max. Whether you upgrade
the springs or fit air bags, the spring rate will increase so ideally shock absorbers should be valved acordingly to match.
"I thought the leafs on the troopy would not need touching" You load the Cruiser up with a 100kg rear bar, add another 80 litres of fuel not to mention the bull bar, probably a winch etc..... of course it wont carry the weight long term. Toyota really have never been very good at making springs that work in central Oz.
As for after market gear mail order will get almost any item to any town in Oz in under 3 days. If you broke a Toyota spring do you think the dealer would actually carry one in stock or order it in as
well?
Cheers Craig...........
