Is it possible to buy a alternator that you can mount to use as a welder?
I was talking to a guy the other day, that remembered years ago there was such a thing, could this also perform as an alternator on a car as
well(100 series) ?
Cheers Steve.

There used to be a product called "Auto-Arc which used a re worked alternator to provide welding, 240V and Battery charging facilities.
I note that Unipower looks just it and does the same thing.
Mate had an Auto-Arc on his work
shop Landrover, magic thing to weld with, and enough grunt to run a 9" angle grinder and some lights,240V, at the same time.
No idea on price but if you're going remote it would be worth investigating.

The new generation Ford
Explorers alternater can be used for welding so i was told.
They are apparently over 300watts, maybe even close to 400

The current Pajero Alternator is 1500 watts - 12 volts x 130 amps = 1500 watts.
But it's no use for welding - you need 24 volts to weld.

Even the one you drowned had the capabillity to supply enough amps for welding , just a little matter of getting it up to 24v , 2x 12v batts and its easy as. , seems to me easier than at home as not as much "setup "variables , just steady welding.
