Hi all,
After 8yrs of really good service I have traded in my ultra reliable Toyota Surf and bought a new Pathfinder TI (one week old).
First thing I want to do to it is to fit a dual battery set up, problem is it will not fit under the bonnet, there is absolutely no space available.
The 4WD specialists
places like Opposite Lock, ARB TJM etc say mounting it in the back is the only option I have, even a couple of auto electrical
places I went to agreed that was my only option, of course this is an expensive option, but my options are limited.
My current line of thinking is to remove the third row of seating which will get next to no use at all and use the space created for the dual battery, maybe even use one of the new AGM type batteries to minimize the chance of any acid spillage.
Is this a practical solution to my problem ?
Does anyone else have any practical ideas as to where to place the second battery ?
Thanks
Barry H.

Haven't seen it done, but this might be worth following up.
If you use an AGM battery, being sealed, it can (I'm pretty sure) be safely mounted on its side, thereby taking up less height, and would therefore probably fit in some of the spare space underneath. Just make sure that there is a pretty good bash plate under it, and stone protection as
well, and away from the exhaust. The outside temperature would also be a plus for the AGM, rather than the sauna in the engine bay, ensuring a longer life.

Thanks for the info Montana, I will have a look at that idea, I am not entirely happy with the idea of the battery in the back , but we will see what happens, yeah pretty happy with the Pathy so far, but I guess a bit of off road work in the next two or three weeks will tell me all I need to know, thanks

Hi Barry
You have 2 choices.
An under-body carrier or Power Pack in the rear.
Regards
Derek.

I have just put a Sidewinder Flyer with 90ah AGM in my Navara D40. Sits in the rear of the cabin. Good thing thing is, it's portable power as
well.
