Rustproof a car, a trailer, or a pair of pliers??
Build it from stainless is best
Hot dip galvanising is next
Protective coating last
I have found that eliminating
water collection areas, and treating rust patches with Fertan before painting, is the best way to keep a car in one piece. My brother gets all rust treated and/or removed every 2 years, and his ancient MQ patrol looks new (
well like a new brick anyway).
Some people carry on about electronic rust prevention, but without unbiased research to guide decision making, you have to rely on testimonials. Buyer beware. I have a friend who had electronic rust prevention system fitted, and the car showed rust within 6 weeks. Never saw a vehicle rust so fast. Rust stopped as soon as he ripped out the system!! Dunno if that's typical, but it changed my mind about getting it for my vehicle.
Cheers
John

Hi John,
I've heard that fish oil is pretty good... You can do it yourself too, as it's sold in pressure pack cans at auto shops - just spray it behind the panels and door trims
The electric cathode/anode (forget my chemistry) approach would also be good as it prevents rust from occuring due to an electrical charge in the car body - however I think having a negative earth does this anyway.
Cheers Will.

Ooww Jiarna, that smarts.
I bag the rust mob also, but after 5 years, the cab/chassis seem to be in pretty fair nick. Funnily enough, I remain sceptical.
Jeff. (and yes, I do have a Magic Wand anti-rust thingo::

For inside panels, its hard to beat fishoil. It's watery enough to penetrate rust thats already there. I've had some in the shed a long time. But vehicles don't rust as much as they used to. And its worth making sure none of the drain holes in the sills and doors are blocked. And hose out dirt etc that trapped behind the front mudguards.
Surface rust - polish
Underneath: Call in at the Happy Wash, and hose off any salt ASAP after beach work. I personally do nothing more. Some people spray oily stuff all over the place under there, but I'd expect that that would attract more dirt.
