Any updated reports on the Simo QAA line access through to
Birdsville (heading west to east of course) had a bit of rain in the area I believe.
Have bad memories three years ago of wet salt lakes and a choice of 20 tracks to get bogged in. Leaving on the 8th July hope, I know school holidays !!
Regards

Quite dry - was out there last week travelling west to east. Even with all the rain (sometime ago) I expected the dunes to be holding better but they are very dry with good sand blows on top. Travelling west to east the QAA dunes dog leg left and right (very sharp) and are dished badly (from wrong tyre pressures and tow bars hitting). Eyre
Creek only had 4 out of 14 channels run with
water and are beautifully green - flowers are finished there and none in the SD - and to cross Eyre
Creek you go south and the crossing has just dried up. There is a possibility of rain today - ring Mt Dare before you leave and ask them. They will tell you for sure what's happening in that respect, guaranteed. Have a good time.

Hello Ruth
chasing some helpful info please
My Wife has a gluten free diet
does the
bakery sell things like Gluten free breads at
Birdsville
can we expect to be able to buy any grocery items there Gluten free (no wheat)
we are taking a lot with us but fresh bread would be good to pick up before the run accross
the desert.

Trevor, no luck with the gluten-free unfortunately. There is a
bakery at
Quilpie and a good one in
Charleville (Heinemanns) as
well. There are grocery items available but I haven't seen anything gluten-free. You'll have to do the gluten-free damper in the old
camp oven - it's ok toasted. Somewhere I have a bread recipe - but you probably already have that, do you?

Trevor, went searching today and found this recipe which may be helpful (or not!).
Gluten Free Fruit Slice -
2 cups Rice Flour (SR)
2 cups Apricot Nectar
1 kg Mixed Fruit
Mix and bake for 2 hours at 150 degrees C
(Slop some Brandy in if you like).
Can't remember whether this recipe came from the ABC Radio or from EO Member - Mrs Pesty.

Hi All,
No rain at Mt Dare, last was some designer spots Sunday before last. Watch out for the traffic lights at Dalhousie!
Beautiful weather at the moment, cool nights and sunny days.
Enjoy
the desert.
