Ok need some help to confirm what I think is right.
As far as lighforce goes there is

240 Blitz which I think has an adjustment for focal length or spread maybe which you can then put plain crystal blue covers on.

240 XGT which has fixed focal lenght to which you put a combo cover on get a spread beam.

Am I right or wrong here?

Why would you pay extra for a fixed length light ? or am I missing something

Thanks in advance. Just want to by the lights once.!

I think the XGT is a H.I.D. light.

Nope the XGT is not a HID.
LF have a HID that looks the same as the XGT in its case but obviously different bulb and guts etc.

So the XGT can be a HID, but you can buy the Blitz in the XGT housing, this version is also more theft proof.

Hiya Peter hope all is going well with you.

The XGT and the HID are two different lights in every respect other than they share the same outside case or housing, they look the same to the casual observer and until you look at the rear of the light which will say either HID or XGT you can't really tell them apart until you turn them on :-)

My understanding is the 240 Blitz is not available in HID but I think it does have some sort of beam adjustment by screwing the reflector housing in or out.
I agree with your comment about the XGT being a bit more secure as I believe you can screw the reflector off the Blitz relatively easily.
I own XGT's so we need a Blitz owner to confirm that.

Going well thank you John, By more theft proof I was meaning they, XGT type, are more difficult to remove from the bull bar, you need two different sized spanners to remove them. I guess the crims know that anyway.

Pete, looking forward to catching up at Warraweena. It is relatively easy to theft proof the Blitz lights or at least as much as anything else on a bullbar. Need a hammer, the right sized punch, and a crow bar, and sockets the right size,

I find the 240 Blitz great that I can rotate to a large spread beam in slower conditions round corners and over ridges.

Hi Dave, I think the blitz is only a spot, also requiring a combo cover to get a spread beam pattern. Thats what I did but I wouldnt bother with the combo cover, two spots were much better.
Cheers Peter and Lez

Hi Guys

The Blitz rotate similar to a mag light to adjust the beam.

The XGT are touring lights, similar to a fixed euro beam.

Regards

Derek.

I have the Blitz. As mentioned they do rotate which adjusts the beam but it makes it hollow on the inside, just like winding out a mag torch as Derek said. This looks crap too by the way. If you want spread it is best to but the combo cover which is what I did. When travelling tight twisty bush roads the pencils weren't very good but with the combo I was happy.

With the rotate thing, it you keep twisting you will spin them off completely. I have an old Lightforce 140 hand held spotty and having been using one of the 240 reflectors as they're so easy to change and WOW, what a difference in light!

No the Blitz didn't come in HID.

Cheers,

Mark.

OK thanks for your replies.

Now next question to all those 80 series owners with ARB bull bars and 240's . Do both types fit?

XGT's do not fit, Blitz do. I have 3 on the ARB bar of my 80 (same bar as in your picture above). If you send me your email I can send a photo of how I set them up.

David........240 blitz..& xgts...same internals.and lenses....blitz.can be rotated from pencil to spread..xgts...ar a fixed non adjustable pencil........clip on covers in clear and coloured....spread and duel fit both lights....xgts outer body and mounting are same as .....HID version.......a lot sturdier...and robust than the BLITZ......XGTS can be upgraded at a later date with HID inserts and bulbs if u so require......BLITZ can not............................have heard of BLITZ being unwind able for adjustment.......unwinding them selves on corrugated roads and u wouldn't know toll u stopped that you had lost a light ........and finding a replacement in the out back would prove ....ni on impossible and costly........eg i am upgrading to .......XGTS....with light blue covers pencil light only for the whiter light ....for straight line distance only .......have a set of nane spreads set at angle for fog line and bush lighting ....

Blue covers make the light appear to be whiter.

I have previously read somewhere that you can get a kit or something to upgrade XGTs to HID. I was interested in doing this, so I phoned Lightforce in Adelaide and they said they do not supply such gear......so I don't know where you would get the stuff if the manufacturer doesn't supply it.

If anybody has actually done upgrade, could you let us know the details please.

Thanks Roachie, but wouldnt the blue covers actually lower the light output? - Or does the now whiter light make it appear brighter?? I have wanted to buy some blue covers for a while, but only if they will improve the vision...

Hard to say for sure Drew. I bought the blue covers because I'm running Xenonoz HID inserts in my main headlights. These are very white and with the standard clear or difuser covers on the XGTs, the spotties looked REALLY yellow by comparison.
Now, with the blue covers, the difference isn't anywhere near as noticeable. I would still love to be able to afford at least one Lightforce HID (and leave the other one as an XGT).....dream-on....hahaha

Drew use the crystal blue LF covers and yes they do make the light whiter and clearer.
No they don't seem to lower output actually makes them better in my view.

I to was under the impression that you could not upgrade the XGT guts to HID.

big forum so not reading it all :)
I have XGT so here we go.
Same external as the HID but uses a 100W globe. They come out of the box as both spots. Need to buy a cover which gives you the spread. This spread still puts a 'dot' down the road though due to it's intensity.
If you have room to fit them then I highly recommened them. For "bang for your bucks" you cant get better.

The spread I particularly like as it doesn't put light where not needed (as per normal glass fronted lights like IPF, Cibie etc). You can test this by looking at spread beams against a wall. There is light going up to the roof etc.
The lightforce attachment gives a definite 'line' across the road directing all your light power where you need it.

enjoy,
