Hi all,
I am writing this post on behalf of a mate who recently converted his live axle 100 series 4.5 auto to LPG. He has 305/70X16 (33") tyres and auto trans. On LPG it is getting about 2.6km per litre(or 36-40L per 100k) which I think is no good.
On petrol it uses about 18L/100k.
I have an 80 series with the 4.5 motor as
well and get close to 5km per litre of LPG city cycle and better on highway.
Basically what I am after is some figures on what you are getting if you have the same type of car on LPG. The only fifference I can see between his 100 and my 80 is the tyre size, his being 33 and
mine are 265/75x16.
He has taken the car back to the conversion place however they say there is nothing wrong.
Honest replies would be appreciated.
Thanks
Rob

The 100 series in stock form uses around 22-25 liters per 100km on lpg around
town.... This is a figures for non-injected system...

G'day Rob,
I have a 2001 GXL petrol Landcruiser completely standard with original Grandtreks and no bullbar etc. I have had it recently converted to the injected gas system with the Flashlube kit and twin scuba
tank setup, by LPGAS1 here in
Lilydale, Victoria. I recently drove to the
Gold Coast and back, 4000Ks and averaged 17lt per 100kms travelling at 107km/h on gas. Tyre pressure was 38psi all round and was travelling with 4 adults and luggage. On petrol I get 16lts per 100 driving the same style. Around town I get 20lts per 100kms on gas and slightly less on petrol. Very happy with the gas conversion as the car has more torque and power on gas when dynoed recently.
Regards,
Bruce

Very doubtful about your figures Bruce. EVen more doubtful about it having more power and torque on gas than petrol. Someone has been telling you porkies! I suspect they had an interest in making you think it was better. Diesel is the only way to go by the way - 10l/100 is easily achieved.

How old is your mate's conversion Rob? I ask this as the diaphragm in the converter requires bedding in and initial gas use is high due to this. After approximately 2000kms this should settle in and then the economy should be checked then. I experienced this with my cruiser when converted and so have a couple of other people I know.
Regards,
Bruce

Bruce,
It is an LPGAS1 throttle-body fed system and was installed in March of this year. Car has only done approx 80000k. He also has Flashlube which I encouraged him to get. I have had it on
mine sinnce I converted to gas 8 years ago and have never had a problem. It's also an excellent injector cleaner when put straight into the fuel
tank.
At first I thought the larger diameter tyres could be the cause but i could not imagine they would nearly double the rate of lpg consumption as on petrol it seems to not make any difference.
Thanks for the reply..very informative

Hi Rob,
I get 18-20l per 100km on gas (non injected system) and 14-16l per 100km on unleaded.
Make sure that your mate has changed the spark plugs, and re gaps them every 10,000km (replace every 20,000) as it will seem to run the same but the economy will get drastically worse. The 100 series have twin electrode plugs and must be used. Also the plug gap is 1.1mm NOT 0.8 like the 80 series.

I have a 2001 GXL 4.5l auto with 285's silent armour on gas (non injected) with scuba tanks and get approx 260kms to 270kms per
tank around town on 72 litres.
I used to get nearly 300kms per
tank with the original 275's tyres which were pirelli scorpions.
Cheers Mal

There's a 6% difference in odo reading going to the 285's... so that can account for an apparent increase in fuel consumption to that degree (6%).

G'day Rob,
We've found that the L'cruisers & Patrols all get around the 450 klms from a 92 usable
tank, getting around 4.5 to 5 k/Ltr.

Dallas,
Thanks for the reply. The figures you quote are pretty much what I get out of my 80 series. My mates 100 series is currently using about 35-38L100k.
He has it bokked in to get checked again and will hopefully come back fixed.
Rob
