Sorry Fellahs & girls, I know that many of you have the above & many other very good vehicles. But..................... I was reading in to days Newcastle Morning Herald that the Mazda BT50 ( B eautifull T hing ) has won the 4x4 magazine " Ute of the Year". Pretty good, Hey!!
Mind you I just happen to have bought one last week and wish to acknowledge & thank the many of you who responded in recent times to my questions about this particular vehicle, which also influenced our decision on which vehicle to spend our money on.
Havent given it a work out yet, but you will hear me boasting ( I hope!!) in the future about how good it is. Mind you it has already passed my wifes inspection, who at first reckoned I was trying to make up for not having a Tonka Toy in the 50's when I was a kid!! Win some, lose some, but I won her & thats what counts!!

Excellant vehicle Barry - looks like you know what the BT stands for - but did they tell you that the 50 means it can go to 50% of the places a Patrol can get to .

No, I wasn't aware of the 50 percent ratio, but it makes sense doesn't it. I was hoping for a good response from all those who own other makes of vehicles!! Reckon there would be some good LOL's !! Anyway guess they will come given a bit of bait. Cheers.

HaHA,! you are a mean person Robin, What you didn't say, was that," they will go to 50% of the places a patrol can get to if they don't have head issues first"

Good onya barry and enjoy your new vehicle. Is it a conventional ute or 4wd? I don't think too many Cruiser or Patrol drivers will be eating their hearts out though! I take it it's your first move away from a sedan (from your wife's opinion) so you've got a steep learning curve ahead. Good luck! There are many very experienced four wheel drivers on this forum who will be only too happy to instruct and advise you as a "newby".

No Aandy, it's a 4x2 with the 3 Litre turbo diesel, but dont let all the 4x4 blokes out there know that please!! Its got the high clearance body, so looks the part, just got the extra diff missing.( ha ha ) And yes, first move away from a sedan. We bought it as a work vehicle, I have a small cleaning business & for towing our 16' pop top. Yep the cruisers & patrols are the way to go if you want a big & reliable vehicle, but we just wanted something not to big but with more than enough towing ability for our needs. Best wishes.

Barry

Sorry to deflate you but the vehicle of the year awards only go to new models. Therefore it doesn't mean that it is the best vehicle. It only means that the magazine believed it is the best of the new models.

The P76 won car of the year.

You said that the mazda won the award. Where did the Ford come. They are the same vehicle out of the same factory. The only read difference is the badge.

And the P76 was a mighty fine vehicle. At least you could fit a 44 gal drum in the boot.

Hope you enjoy it Barry. I looked very closely at it earlier in the year when it first came out. The dealers didn't even really have much information on them - I even had to go an hour away from home to test drive one (I live in Melbourne). Anyway the specifications finally made the decision for me and for my needs the rodeo stacked up just a bit better, mainly because of the tray size and because of the number of holden dealerships around the country. In every other respect they were pretty equal and the BT50 seemed like a nice vehicle. Nice dash, too!!

Good on ya Barry
Don't think there's much wrong with any of the recent utes and the market is so competitive, they'll all keep offering more and the consumer will win. On the other hand, maybe rushing new stuff to the market will lead to lots of warranty issues?
Didn't some other mag rate the ford version best?
Cheers

I think you are right Peter, they are all good. The Ford is a Mazda , basically the only difference is the badge. We went Mazda for value for money as it had the basic things we wanted & could afford and at the same time suited our needs.

Cant remember what the codes where but from memeory the last two digits on the VIN tell if the vehicle was built in Japan or built in South Africa.

The SA ones were funny...same vehicle but very different build qualities.
Jap ones were fine but the techs at Mazda were sick of bolting things back onto the SA ones....bolts loose, ill fitting bumpers etc parts just fell off haha. Just less quality control not less quality.

Still very capable vehicles as are all the Dual Cabs on the markets at the moment.

All the best with your purchase!!

Matt.

I read somewhere that they are all made in Thailand - can't believe everything you read I suppose.

A guy at work nose-to-tailed someone 4 months ago. The parts needed ie. bonnet, guards and bumber, took 3 and a half months to arrive, he got it back last week. That's the Ford version though.

Just leave your two seconds gap and you should be allright.

He's very impressed with the power and economy of the 2.5l version he bought.
