Is that a button to start or stop the engine?

Both!
It's Toyota's new technology and I've seen it in a new Aurion a friends got. The central locking and engine start/stop is all remote sensor controlled. As long as the "key" (a little black plastic immobilisor like control about the size of a 20c piece) is within about 1.5 metres of the vehicle, the doors are automatically unlocked...walk away from the car and they lock too. Stop you from locking your keys in the car i guess!!
As for starting the car...similar thing. As long as this key is inside the car, put your foot on the brake, press the button and hey presto....car's started. Press it again and it will stop.
Basically means you don't need to take your keys out of your pocket.
Impressive....extremely lazy, but impressive all the same!!!

Probably the same thing that happens with most (?) new vehicles these days......the immobiler is damaged. Though at least in this case, it guarantees that it locks your vehicle so you can't get back in :-)

You wouldn't want to get in with your wet things on anyway.

I was thinking of an accidental dunking, you know the walk in to launch the boat forgetting they are in your pocket, fall over into the drink that sort of thing.
Kind regards

I said i've seen it,...not that i invested it!!
I still miss the days of hanging my (metal) key around the chain on my neck whenever i went for a swim...Safe, Secure and no electronics to get all buggered up. So much simpler really!!!

I dropped my 2004 commodore keys into the
water off the jetty while on a job and they stayed there at 3m for about 3.5 hours. Dived in and got them and they still worked for another two years till i sold the car. I thought they would be buggered for sure

I would imagine the key would be a passive chip. Just like a proximity snesor.
My motorbike has one and it gets wet in the rain. The electronic part would be the scanner in the car.
Swim away !!

Outside skin looks OK but a bit fussy (nothing compared to many modern vehicles).
Thank goodness they didn't go over the top with the shape of moulded lights as some have done. No big lumps of plastic on the sides either - great!
Yep, it should sell
well.

I agree. Not super attractive, but could have looked a lot worse. Speedo goes up to 250 km/h as
well! Either a bit optimistic or plenty of room for growth in the engine performance department.

Doesn't look like I'll have one anytime soon. Anyway, they really are getting uglier!
