Hi guys
Just got back from the Cape and boy did we strike it lucky. We missed the deep low in mid May and got out before the current low up there now. The weather was ab fab, the roads were super highway smooth (Development Rd that is) the OLT was mildly exiting. Gunshot was P155 easy due to Telstra pushing a 3rd ramp down the eastern side of the other 2. the only problem we had was with Nolans Brook that was very deep causing one in our group to ingest some water, but fortunately for him his motor was only in idle when it happened and we managed to get the water out via the glow plug holes (2hours work) without ANY damage being done to the car, the same cannot be said for the drivers ego.

Warning that those that go through Lakefield that there is a deep washout on Nifold plains that has claimed 2 diffs that I heard about at Musgrave.

The trip was as good as it gets.

Got home 26th june. and missing travelling already.
Colin

G'day Voxson
We were on our way home as we went through Lakefield and as such did not have the time available to explore as much as we wanted to, so no Kalpower, pity. But we did see 2 Tipans near the creek at the rear of the lions den pub while on an early morning walk. Those buggers dont back off do they.

Good to see you had a great trip, pity we couldn't meet up when we were in Mackay. May have to catch up when I am down your way.

Is that the washout that has claimed the diffs, in your rig pic? If so it is a ball tearer that I would not like to find at 40kph.

Cheers, trevor.

Thats the one, 18inches deep at least. 2 vehicles went home on tray tops.
Talking to John at Musgrave & he reckons as many as 1 in 10 leaves the Cape on a truck every year.

Thanks for the info mate. Only 14 days and we'll be heading up that way.
Just hope all the school holiday brigade don't mess things up too much.
Any other POIs or stuff we should be looking out for??
Any info gratefully appreciated.

The track is not too bad watch out for Nolans Brook it claimed one in our group and a petrol troopie just like yours had to winch out after the candle went out, in his case i think it was electrical only. Otherwise the Dev. rd is/was in great condition mostly just a few corrugation's in the northern section. The Frenchmans track to Portland Rds was definitely closed at the Pasco as it is TOO DEEP the only way in is the southern approach only.
