This is a follow up from post 41768.
You might remember about 6 months ago I fitted a turbo to a non-turbo 4.2 GU.
I had a 3" exhaust put on the Patrol a few weeks ago and thought it went better then until I took down to get the timing and fuel flow set up properly. When the bloke that set it up drove it to the dyno (Hitech Diesel doesn't have a dyno) he thought it went alright. When he drove it back he was quite surprised at the power it had. He said it was one of the better ones he has done.
I cant scan the dyno print out but can say before there was 55kw with an AFR (Air Fuel Ratio) of 30. Not sure how that is measured but hoping someone could tell me as I didn't think to ask then.
Now It has 83kw with an AFR of about 20.
Not sure what the RPM is as it doesn't say but what I do know is It's 100% better now than what it was before.
Thanks to all those who helped with some info on past experiences
Only 1 week so go to Warraweena see yous all there............ Sorry couldn't help myself lol
Cheers Luke

Gday Luke,
My last GQ 4.2 had a rear wheel output of 44kw..
After fitting an MTQ Turbo it produced a rear wheel output of 77kw @ ½bar of boost or 7-8psi,,,,......

Luke,
Interesting figures. I am thinking of getting my diesel pajero dyno'd after fiddling with boost and exhaust.
From what I can work out on those figures.
AFR of 30 is obviously 30 parts air to 1 part fuel. Not sure if it is volume or weight. A petrol engine usually runs at 13 to 15. You know have an AFR of 20. I assume the amount of air going in has not changed , i.e. boost increased? Then they have increased the fuel so you are getting more fuel in the air, now 20 parts air to one part fuel.
More fuel, more bang, more power. As long as it is not blowing smoke, since it is more likely now. But worse fuel economy on full throttle :o(
55 to 83 kw is actually 50.9% better, not 100% :o)))).
Was looking at some 4wd porsche turbo (996) figures the other day, a little tweaked, and it was getting 330kw at the
wheels. But it doesn't have low range and enough clearance for what I want to do, so I had to dismiss it. Tweaked STi's and EVO VIIIs are about 200 to 220kw at the
wheels. Just thought I would mention it so you don't get too carried away on the bitumen dragging other people off. Know the feeling though.

I thought about that when I wrote it but didn't think anyone would comment.......... smartarse ;)

Hi Luke,
I have similar sentiments regarding the dyno tune.
Mine went from the standard 66kw the factory delivers to an end result of 126kw at the rear
wheels. This has needed the turbo to be upgraded an intercooler added and plenty of fuel and boost added. It runs to a max of 14psi but I don't know the air fuel ratio. Dyno chart is on my rig page. Longevity of motor has been OK so far and with 315000km on the dial it should be showing if there was to be any probs, I would think.
See you at Warraweena.
Trevor.

Buggalugs,
Thanks for your reply,
I dont think I will worry about going for the intercooler and upgraded turbo as I've just upgraded with a turbo ;)
See you at Warraweena also

Got a bit more to go Luke :-)
Trevor's ( Trevor R Bris ) 99 4.2 GU with over 300,000k's put out 125kw at the rear
wheels, around 160kw at the motor, also has the MTQ turbo.
Not trying to be a smartarse or anything, just pointing out what can be achieved is all.
Keeping in mind when you're playing with diesel's you should really be concentrating on torque not horsepower as this is what diesels work on, HP figures will generally be quite low in diesels, when you go modifying them you're chasing torque, the more torque the better.
Cheers
Pezza

No worries there Pezza I see what you are saying but as already said to Buggalugs above (sorry Trev, shouldn't say that about a Nissan owner lol) But I'm not really interested about the 125kw's.............. at the moment ;)

I use the think you couldn't mess with anything that had an ECU. Especially dyno tuning.
Well I've been proved wrong. Had our 95 series Prado TD dyno tuned at
Brisbane Tuning and Turbo after I had a mandrel 2 3/4 inch mandrel exhaust fitted. Seems they cause the engine to run too lean.
I already had a Dtronic and ditched the Hiclones.
The tune alone provided 3.7 Kw and 24 Nm improvement.
Power improvement all up over standard is now around 22% (88 kw at the rear
wheels for a 4 pot 3 litre old technology engine!).

No one has mentioned exhaust gas tempertures. To me this would be the most critical measurement. No use in getting a torque/kw gain at the expense of excessive egt`s. Regards G.T.
