Pete
You will probably fined that the filter was made to have the oil travel through it the other way round, and also has a anti drain back valve fitted, so oil whet in but could not come out BANG.
This has allways been a problem with filter elements that have the same size thread..

Still never happened , but what happened is the one I got , when I filled it full of oil , installed it , and started the engine .
Well it made a noise like shhhhh air escaping , and then oil was everywhere , I switched off rapidly , so never did any damage . It split the top of the oil filter away from the body part of the filter . I now only buy genuine , or ryco , and have never had any trouble since . My 2H diesel has normal oil pressure , but I have seen a lot of 2H diesels with high mileage that have high oil pressure because the relief valve wears a groove and sticks , and they possibly would even blow genuine or ryco filters .

"I filled it full of oil" ...
Is that usual practice?
Aren't you supposed to let the oil pump do it's job?

I've been filling them with oil (
well- half filling anyway) for 40 odd years and never a problem.
It just reduces the time till oil pressure comes up.

I buy
mine from RooDog Spares in (as I recall) Mirray Brudge.
Great guys - great service, and as reliable off eBay as on it.
I can't recall for sure, but I think they were Toyota genuine oil filters.

I have used the kits from the mob on e-bay and never had a problem. This is set number 4 in my HZ and the next one will be the same.

I found getting a good relation with local nissan dealer and buying filters in 'bulk' (5 air and/or 10 oil) was
well and truly worth the effort. I get great prices now on air/oil/fuel filters, and know they are the good ones. I even get the good prices on single units now.
as for Ebay, nfi.
