Hi all.

My bro wants to know about mapping software and macintosh and gps. I looked around on the web but I dont think apple lives in the same world as me. I would be grateful if anyone can advise me if I am wrong.

And he wonders why I shake my head when he mentions apple.!

Hello - macgps is one option

www.macgpspro.com/

But maybe best option is to get some sort of windows emulator and run Oziexplorer or another gps mapping program of his choice.

Cheers

Owen,
I am a big Mac fan, we have two in the house, and I use one in my office, however I used to use GIS and commercial GPS every day, now just GPS and maps for trips... I tried a windows emulator on my powerbook but gave up and had to admit that for mapping and GPS software etc it was just easier to go with an old Panasonic toughbook that I bought 2nd hand cheap - easy to use with Garmin software, trimple professional GPS software, GIS and Fugawi mapping (very similar to Oziexplorer I suspect). At least that way I also don't stress too much about dust/corrugations etc stuffing up my mac - and the toghbook is certainly tough! Of course for everything else the Mac wins hands down :-)
For just gps stuff I reckon cheap windoze laptop is the way to go.

thanks everyone. more or less what i expected to hear. the macgpspro sounds promising being dedicated mac program but new territory. I had a struggle with oziexplorer to begin with myself so I dont think its the answer for my bro. Really, he has never done any outback obscure track track travelling like most on this forum so I will recomend one of those cheap street maps that talk.

Everyone who owns a mac loves it but for me it would be frustration extrordinaire
not being able to try all those freebies and ' borrowing' programs from the far east. Horses for courses there.

thanks again
