Land Rover has recorded a massive quality improvement in this years JD Power quality study, with a reduction of 34 problems per hundred vehicles or around 15%. Unfortunately this still places it last out of the 35 brands surveyed but it’s nice to know that they’re trying…

So Rod it appears I was probably right when I said last year 1 in 10 Landys was a lemon ;-))
Toyota 7th, Nissan 19th, Mitsubishi 29th & Jeep 32nd. Pretty much follows sales patterns doesn't it?

Can anyone tell me, how this land was surveyed?…..
Was it Toyota?, Nissan?, Mitsu?…NO! NO! NO!

It was bloody Landy… (Yes, and some time camels).

Why suddenly everybody spiting on Landys???
Generally and very often bad drivers and bad
maintenance are responsible for some “lemons”.

Oh dear LTO, you really must get out there in the outback, sit around a fire with a few 4wders and get a conversation going about vehicle reliability. Then you'll find out why everybody is spiting or even spitting on them. If in fact Landrovers were used to "survey this land" it would have been in the days when they were the only 4wd around and when British cars dominated the market. They still broke down but so did all cars in those days. Japanese manufacturers place so much importance on R and D that their products are very reliable. British manufacturers do not and their products still are not. Sorry but those are the cold hard facts of the matter. There is still considerable emotional attachment for some people to the British marques but it's blind loyalty like the dog who still loves the master who kicks him.

Well, I'm not POME, but I love my Rover it take me where your Toyota takes you. We had problems at all, and had travelled off road a lot.

I'll offer a different perspective on this. I've taken my Land Rover back three times now. Each time was for piddling little things that had no effect on the actual running of the vehicle. Doubtless, each time I took it back it would have been recorded as a "problem", but in reality I couldn't have cared if the "problem" wasn't fixed. The thing is, Land Rover fix them! They always look at my problems, they never quibble about whether or not is a warranty issue, they just fix it.

On the other hand, my 2005 Pajero has been back to the Doctor's 8,234,786 times and unless the problem actually renders the vehicle unroadworthy, they won't even touch it. Do these get reported? I bet they don't. Mitsubishi have fought tooth and nail to avoid fixing anything on that piece of excreta and only give in when threatened.

So my point is, what good are these surveys when it is the manufacturers that do the reporting? They are open to gross distortion and in my mind are meaningless.

I don't care that people take the piddle about us having a Landy....when we get through tough terrain that the Tojos either struggle with or don't get through at all, I just smile and shrug my shoulders.

Cheers,

Russ.

The JD surveys are taken from the owners reporting their experiences.

Maybe LR owners,as Ive always suspected, are bigger whingers than other owners.

You are very right Russ, Land Rover are excellent at repair work & customer relations in general from what I've seen. And again you're correct that the majority of times they go in for warrenty are only minor things that dont actually stop the car. For one friend it just got too much though as in his 1st year the $120,000 Rangie was in the dealership for 8 weeks with a series of minor issues from the radio not working, traction control failing to the thing dropping into limp home mode on the freeway. The service was so great they gave him a loaner but he just wanted his car back. Despite his upper crust heritage he lowered his standards & bought a Lexus instead. (His wife seriously said "Yes but it's only a Toyota") The reason he changed was that his mechanic gave him a list of a dozen other common problems he could expect in the next couple of years. I suspect that's the price one has to pay for having one of the most capable 4x4's in the world.
Cheers Craig..........

I have always been a huge Landy admirer. I still am, but having owned one for a few years (no longer) I now prefer to admire them from afar. There is no way I would ever own one again.

My bank balance is still on the critical list but is out of intensive care now that 6 Landy Free months have passed.
