catch limits have been very tight up there, make sure you dont slip up as the fisheries have been pretty hot on it up there. Not sure what the rules are now but you had to buy tags for snapper before you could catch them a couple of years back. Dont know if that has been relaxed yet?

Further to fisho64's,
The Fisheries or what ever they are known as now (Govt bodies in WA tend to change names at the drop of a hat these days) do have the power to confiscate not only your catch, but also your boat and boat trailer, and also the tow vehicle if the offence is deemed sufficiently criminal.
Doesn't happen often, but it has happened.
I'd check with DEC (formerly CALM) for the current bag limits and sizes. They 'should' be able to direct you to the correct people if necessary.
A useful web site is www.fish.wa.gov.au
This will give you the most up to date informatiom on bag limits and fish sizes.

Dave, I was up there last week of April and all of May and did a bit of fishing too, mostly trolling for mackerel (trailer sailboat). Did not catch as many as last year, there was a fishing competition on as
well and the participants did not weigh in anything remarkable either from what I gathered.
You will catch plenty of northwest blowfish, which are a real pain to get the lure back from. Make sure you have good quality tracer wire, these b....rds will bite right thru any cheap wire.
Last year we were up there in June, it was a fair bit cooler at night than it was this trip but then we sleep on the boat. There is no protection in Nanga bay from wind S-W-N so you will have to pull out every night if the forecast is bad.
Have fun,
Klaus

gidday
we were up there a couple of weeks ago. stayed at
denham c/p. fishing over near steep point/dirk hartog isl was pretty good, but the
water was a bit on the cool side, and quite windy most of the time (day and nite).
if u want to realy have a good time, go further north and try exmouth/murion islands. absolutely the best.
water abt 28 deg. we caught spaniards, shark macks, on the troll (rapalas and fresh whole mullet), red emperor, rankin cod, redthroat etc etc etc on the bottom with mulies, squid and left over bits of fresh fish.
cheers

Yeah watch out for the sharks, last few flights I did up there, saw some huge sharks pretty close to shore.
Great
places up there though.
