We are of in about two weeks from
Adelaide via
Marree Birdsville and onto
Lawn Hill and then to the Gulf and as far north as
Cooktown.
Hoping to do some serious fishing when we arrive.
I am taking the Porta Bote so had to think about a light weight trailer to move it over
the beach or to the river from the
park etc.
Also needed to carry the outboard.
So came up with the following ideas :-

At this stage they are untested but I am confident they will work.
The Bote goes on top of a home made aluminum rack on the Prado.
Will enter photo of this when finished.
Looking forward to 4 to 5 months somewhere where it is warm.

Good luck. Must admit I personally wouldn't fancy only having a Porta Bote between me and the snapping handbags. But then again I'm probably a bit of a sook in that regard ... LOL

I'm pretty confident about my "icecream can" boat.
I have this theory that a croc would puncture ally easier than "plastic".
On a serious note I do have a tinny of the same size and am a lot more confident in the Potra Bote than in it.
If you stand on one side of a tinny the other side will raise at the same rate, but this will "bend".
Two over hundred kilo blokes stood on the VERY edge with a eighty kilo bloke sitting on the opposite side and it just stayed there.
Very impressive.
You do have to get used to it flexing under your feet but it is virtually un-tipable.(Is that a word).
The trailer I made is for hundred yard hand pulling only.

Looks good Mal. Will be fine for when you are camped close to the
water (but not too close!!!). Will at least let you leave the boat set up overnight and still get it out of the
water.
I went out in a Portabote in
Darwin when up there last year. It was surprisingly stable, but you are right, you have to get used to the flexing in the floor. A bit of a worry at first.
The structure of the boat didn't worry me as far as crocs were concerned. More the little 4 HP motor and it's lack of get up and go.
Have a great trip and hope you get some serious fish.

Hi Mal and Di, Wife and I are doing almost exactly the same trip leaving
Kimba on 8th of July for 3 months.We have a gold Jackaroo and camper trailer so may see you along the way. Have a good trip. Cheers Gary
