On Temporal rather than Geographic Itineraries.
We are getting ever closer to our 'Big Trip', and expect to be on our way by April 2008. The trip will be 'open ended' i.e. the final destination (if there is one) is unimportant. The trip will not be less than 2 years. However, rather than just follow our noses, and apart from probably travelling anti-clockwise with the seasons, we would like to plan an itinerary around events not
geography. It seems that Australia has many unique events like
Birdsville, that happen maybe just once a year. There are also regular interesting monthly markets at various
places.
Does anyone know of any comprehensive list of these 'events' that would enable an itinerary to be drawn up taken them into account?
all suggestions welcome
Welshmun

I suppose I could start building the event driven itinerary myself . . . that way I'll learn what's going on ! :)

PS David, I see you've altered the title and provided some context by reference to the original article. Good idea. However I can't see the followups (you and me); I'm guessing you remove housekeeping dialog? Doug

The is a monthly Magazine type Book called 'Markets and Fairs' which lists a whole heap of happenings, Australia-wide.
We started out on the road in '95 doing Markets and eventually moved into the Wholesale business making Craft Items and selling to shops. This took a two year 'On the Wallaby' stint to 5 years on the road. We travelled all States except WA and Tassie and got to see a hell of a lot of
places we would never have had an idea to go to.
At the conclusion of our time the caravan was stuffed and the 4by tired and it was time to settle down again...
Enjoy your travels.
Cheers

Thanks for the info on Markets & Fairs, Willem.
We too want to do the markets for extra money; we have a signwriting vinyl cutting machine, PC powered, that we thought it would be useful to set up and offer instant car/boat/cara/trade signs.
Did you see much of this on your travels?

Hi Doug
Hmmm..... my memory has let me down...lol
We came to the end of our permannent travels in 2000.
I am sure that with what you have there will be a Market for it. We came up with our own design making Australiana KeyRacks and house signs etc and they sold
well and kept us going for 5 years.
Cheers

Thanks Viv.
Hmm - looks good, but need a copy of their database . .
Trawling through 140 web pages looks a bit tedious.
At least the information is out there . .
Thanks again
