Hi, can anyone please advise which parts to get to convert a HJ45 with front drum brakes to discs. I want to get a bit more stopping power. I recently saw a complete front axle with disc brakes for sale but it seems a little silly to buy and transport a whole axle when I can probably use part closer to the wheel only I.e. king pin outwards. I am just confused as to the changeover ability of later Cruiser brake parts.

Never done it, but I gather the old series Hilux brakes were the go. A good Wreckers might have the exact info you need.

Hi Jonny,
Many years ago I had a 1978 40series with drums all around & converted the front to disc's using the discs/hubs/calipers & master cylinder of a 1985 75series, all worked
well & was a simple change over. There should be assembles available wrecker yards.
regards Simon.

Hi Johhny,
Did this on my HJ47. I am pretty sure it is the same for your but I think your splines on the axles are a coarse spline, could be wrong though. You would have to use hubs off the existing axles. You will need to replace the swivel hubs with ones that as for disc brakes and then get the disk hubs and the calipers and the discs.
When I did
mine the brake hoses all matched up and everything was a straight bolt up. If you are in Melb, Somerville 4wd wreckers are a good place for info.
You should be able to use 60 series, 75 series or hilux disc brakes. The only difference with the hilus ones are the discs are not vented and thus the caliers are to suit the discs.. If you get hilux calipers get hilux discs.
Regards
Ray

Sorry, should read "you will have to use the FREEWHEEL hubs off the existing axles"
