Hello all,
Just returned from a trip from
Brisbane-
Darwin via the
Savannah Way. It was the first time I have trialled an all LED
camp-lighting system.
I wish to caution potential converters NOT to get the brightest possible lighting as it will attract insects as effectively as fluros :(
I settled to a approximately 300mA drive per Cree Q2 [WH bin]. A string of four devices gave good spread and adequate light for cooking & reading. Expect this value will vary with Luxeons ,SSC etc.
Hope this helps.

Hi Eng
Leds certainly come in all sizes and shapes these days and with quite varying spectrums.
There are even special UV ones which are used in medical application are these really attract the bugs.
Best most people can do I feel is to specify the ones labelled "Warm White " these have less UV and give an acceptable
camping type light when run at there specified and hence most efficent rating.
I use two such in series from 12v with a resistor which have 35 lumens each out and they do perform quite
well as apparently do yours.

Hi Robin,
Yes, I am chasing the warmer
bins now. I used the leftovers from my torch mods where I was/am chasing maximum lumens :)
4 in series meant no additional electronics & using the canopy[alloy] as return simplified it even more [KISS]
