Has anyone had to replace alternator brushes in a G U 4.2 Patrol? Mine has just clocked 265,000k's and have the originals still , but Nissan do not have a replacement Kilometer recommendation. Nissan dealer told me with a confused look on his face when i asked him at what K's they changed them , he said, When the light comes on, "pop it down and we'll change them for you". YEAH, handy when your're out in the scrub. Can't imagine why they have left this little money maker out. Probably they just havn't thought of it. Cheers Michael.

Nick Walker is the man on the Patrol list for Alternator questions, he has rebuilt his GQ one few times since 89, and I think now runs a Gu one..

worth a try anyway

Michael,
It is a Hitachi 100amp alternator.
Get the number from the alternator label and then go to visit "Ingram "in your state.
They will have a cross referance number for it.

Alternatively you could also try Ashdown.

You will find that the brushes are the same as any other Hitachi alternator.
At that milage I would be looking at removing the alternator, replacing bearings and brushes, it will be good for another 250000kms then.

Same thing for the starter motor
Will
