I am running original rims and tyres 265x70x16 on the 02 Prado TD. Thinking of buying a new set for the trip in the future???? It's all been said before but I'll say it again. BFG or Coopers? I am leaning towards the BFG because there were numerous negatives with the Coopers. What size can I run with? Thanks for the future replies.

265/70R16 in AT L/T = BFG

Another option is 245/75R16 then you have many to choose from.

Like Marq says, BFG are the only LT choice in 265/70R16 - all the rest are Passenger construction.

If you upsize to 265/75 or keep the same diameter with 245/75, you can choose from any brand you like. In those sizes, I'd go the Goodyear Silent Armour or MTR. If you upsize to 265/75, you'll be better with a suspension lift so teh tyres don't touch at the front.

I have the same vehicle and have done over 40,000km so far on Cooper ST/C 265x75x16 with 80% of that on dirt including the Western Deserts, Pilbara, Canning, Cape York, Gulf Country, Birdsville Track, Simpson, East Arnhem Land and numerous other places in between. No Punctures so far and faultless performance. (I'd better go and touch some wood)
The 265x75 12 ply light truck profile has a squarer profile and has been much more puncture resistant that the standard 265x70 4 ply passenger comfort rated tyres.

Hope this info is of some help.

I just bought couple of weeks ago 5, 7x16's steel rims off a GXL for my 95 series prado as spares to run off road tyres on. I have alloys on it for around town with standard road tyres. Am a big bf fan but this time trying the Goodyear Wrangler MTR's. You can jump on there web site to check out the specs Have it hear in front of me but too much to type. I know of one person on here that is running them on his 120 series and has done desert run and alot of off road work and no problems so far. I am only going by what he has said not by a salesman trying to sell them to me. Just another option thats all.Regards steve M

Thanks all, Stephen M I have alloys as well and am looking at buying some sunraysia rims. I have tried everywhere to buy steel wheels of which I have one as a spare but unfortunately everyone wants to charge at least 100 bucks each. I bot a spare for 46 $ and it is off an older Playdoe but I am hoping it fits. Time to look at ebay again. fuji

I was lucky - picked up 4 x 16x7 Prado rims off ebay a couple of years ago for $200. Bonus was they still had Grandtreks on which I got another 30000kms out of before whacking on Wrangler AT/Rs for my trips. Runnning Cooper AT/Rs for day to day stuff. Love an ebay bargain...

Go on, spend your money on overseas products.

It's simple: Oz made 694 Bridgestones 265/65/16s keep your money in Oz and those tyres just work.
