It's an article written by Ford enthusiasts about a Ford organised comparison between the F-150 and the Toyota Tundra. If you're a F truck owner you might find it interesting... :-P

Cheers

They state a case on rigidity in favour of the Fords, but if rigidity was all important, why do aeroplane wings flex up and down, and pro's and cons between welded compared to bolted chassis would open vigourous arguments in the engineering business. (they bolt bridge components together)
It must be true though because it's on the web.

What makes Unimog trucks outperform most others is the fact that their chassis has been designed to flex, as opposed to the more rigid onroad truck chassis. Also cab and tray/body connections to the chassis are designed to allow the chassis to flex unrestricted, to the point where you can have the cab and body at 30 degrees or so angles to eachother. I'd have thought that flexible chassis would ber considered an advantage. The US are not all flat, surely?

There is more to this than meets the eye.

Whether you like it or not, Land Rover is considered one of the most capable offroad vehicles in stock form. This is due among other things to a very rigid box section chassis.

Basically you can go two ways rigid and use wheel travel or flexible and less wheel travel. In many ways a lot of flexing in a chassis is not such a good thing as it creates other issues. Ideally you want as stable a platform, to fix a body to, as possible.

As for plane wings, well I can't see the relevance unless you've thought your Toynisswoo to fly :-)

Being a die hard toyota fan you can't argue with that can you, the ford trucks are built tough thats for sure. It would be interesting to see the sales figues for the Tundra and see if Toyotas research has allowed them to market the Tundra better than the F150 and obviously sell more trucks.

Oh well my dream ute at the moment is the new Cruiser V8 and i cant afford that so the little Lux will just have to do!

Just a question on one of their claims (a technical question)
They mention that for every 10 dba in volume it is twice as loud.
I thought that for every 3db in volume, its twice as loud.

Correct. 3db is a doubling of sound pressure

3db may be twice as loud but not to the human ear.

Several millions of references using google.

e.g
Site Link
"RELATIVE SOUND LEVELS
The decibel follows a logarithmic scale, rather than a linear one. This is a complex subject, but for our purpose, it is sufficient to note:
1 dB is generally the smallest difference that can be perceived by human beings
A 3 dB difference is clearly audible for just about anyone with normal hearing
A 10 dB difference is generally perceived as being twice or half as loud."

What a joke, F trucks must be the most overated ute there is. Big and bloated they drive like boats. I have driven the 4.2 and the 7.3 and would take a turbo cruiser or Nissan any day.

What a pencil pushing nerdy way to compare vehicles!

This is how a true redneck yank compares vehicles, I think it really shows how tough those F trucks are too. :-P

Having owned both a F250 and (presently) a Landcruiser I cannot see any real basis for comparison because they are built for different purposes, which either performed quite well.

But a Landy? Now that would be an entirely different question althogether and the answer would be 'Hahahahaha'. ;-)
