Hi Dave .. got some bad news - note the last sentence :
"By selecting in the 'Navigate to...' menu, you can view even more navigation options. Choose 'ZIP code' if you know this information for your destination and would prefer to enter this than use the town or city name. Once you've selected a ZIP code in the browser, you'll be asked to choose a street name (if needed) and house number in the usual way.
Tip: You can change your mind and start entering the town name after all. Or indeed start entering a ZIP code in the main Address browser. It really is up to you. Note that full ZIP code support is only available for the UK and the Netherlands."
This is taken from the TomTom instruction CD.

Yes I understand Terry , that was actually the point of my post you see I dont want a street or number just the place , its a caravan site so theres no real street no; I've tried looking in the POI caravan sites but its not listed so I thought a postcode would be the go, never mind thanks for the input anyway guys and gals,
its always appreciated, off to
Denham tommorrow regardless,
best wishes,
Dave

Or you could do what I have done, that is give it to the misses.
I just got one and besides the fact that I cant load on better maps its bloody inaccurate, I would not recommend it to anyone.
It tells me my house is 80 metres down the street, and is normally out by 100 metres when giving directions to street numbers/address.
I thought the good ones are meant to be accurate within 1 metre and the majority are within 5-10 metres?
Sorry to be so negative on your post.
Good luck with yours.

yeah - I've found that too - but how difficult is it to count down about five houses away?

Hi Babs,
I don't have a Tom Tom, but my Garmin is also sometimes inaccurate on street numbers. This from what I have been told is due to discrepencies in the data obtained from Councils as to street numbers as opposed to the original Lot numbers of a block of land. I don't worry too much about the numbers, as long as I get to the correct street. My street number isn't even recognised at all, it offers the number across the road or a couple of doors further up the road, probably due to it being a vacant block until recently.
Hope this sheds some light on your little gripe. I can't imagine someone driving around all the streets and taking GPS coordinates of every house and the street number, can you? haha

Actually this is exactly what Navtek claim they are doing...Driving every street in Australian cities to update their maps.
TomTom and Destinator use Sensis maps and CoPilot use the Navtek maps...Not sure where Garmin and all of the other brands get their maps from though..

Sorry to hear that Tom Tom is not giving accurate info in Oz.
We're living in Switzerland these days and are using the Tom Tom we bought when living in California (pre-loaded with US & European data) and it's amazingly accurate, for Europe anyway - even warns of red light & speed cameras (fixed, of course).
I guess the software / data they've obtained for Oz is letting you down.

The crappy unit it is tells you to do U turns at traffic lights, it misses on-off ramps, no doubt about it its crap.
Well then again, you get exactly what you pay for, I keep telling people this, I should have listened to my own advice.

my job involves house visits and the amount of times Iv'e entered a house number that it says does not exist, I have lost count of. Even in older established areas where the house has been standing for donkey's years.

Interesting about U-turns at traffic lights, we've chosen "Ken" as the voice and he tells us "where possible make a legal U-turn". Maybe different software releases?
