Gday,
Has anyone out there had much experience with web pages?
Are any of the free web hosts any good and if so, who's the best?
I'm just playing around with setting one up at the moment so it doesn't have to be anything too special.
Thanks in advance.

I was having a little look around the other day for some free hosting, most seem to have to many ad's and pop up's...so I went with a budget paid hosting for my club website, to me it was worth the money for NO ad's ect. You can get budget hosting as cheap as $20-30 a year.
Cheers Stefan

Mine is $49.90 a year through MD hosting......can't remember the names of the others, just google budget hosting and you will be presented with hundreds of choices. I went with MD cause they are an australian company, with 24 hour support ect....The real cheap ones are OS based with only e-mail support. But of course its your choice.

Don't know why I'm doing this, but I'll talk our web guy tomorrow and see if he can come up with some cheap solutions.
You might like to enlighten us as to the purpose of the web site. If it's about your fetish for plucking feathers off crustations, forget it!
LOL

It's handy to have an idea how much bandwidth you will be using by hosting the site. The cheaper solutions have limited bandwidth available.
If you start hosting images or videos then they can quickly use up bandwidth.
In simple terms, bandwidth is the measure (quantity) of data that your site will send and receive across the internet.

Gday,
Its only a family site, something for the kids to muck around with and me to learn how they work.
Few photos I suppose

Which ISP are you with? Quite a few offer a limited space for free hosting.
Bigpond is one.

I use bigpond free hosting for my website. Like Welshmun said the only limitation is the band width. My site is at present using up about 2/3s of my alloted space.

Hi Steve,
This is something I've been thinking of doing. What software do you use to create and write up the site?

Austravel,
There is lots of programes out there that you can use. Mirosoft make one called frontpage that is popular. The one I use is made by Serif called Webplus8.0. I downloded it off their site for $20 about 6 months ago. Iv'e just had a look at their site and it appears that they don't have version 8 anymore, but have upgraded to version 10. They have also upgraded the cost. Maybe if you email them you might be able still get version 8.

Google also give you free webspace and also their own software to build your site. I was using this for a while but found it a bit limited, however you might want to have a look, it might suit you for starters.

I use a company called Digital Pacific and they charge $9.95 per month.
You have to register a domain name, but you have complete control.
cheers
