Hi Shaker,
The way I read the post is "that is actually what they are asking", in a round about sort of way.
What size and weight caravan would a Terrano capably tow?

Depends on towbar rating and vehicle limits.

IMHO nothing bigger than 15ft, preferably poptop, and not too heavy (up to 1.0 tonne empty). Might rule out some of the OFFroads on weight.

Basically, personal preferences and proposed use will dictate choices.

Not much help, I know, but there are so many variables to consider.

They are an extraordinarily capable tow vehicle.
You are right, I didn't read the post correctly.

Hi,

The Terrano Ii should tow 2.800 kg legally, but some brochures by Nissan indicate a max. tow limit of 2.000kg, which is not the case. The Overlander mag also shows max tow limit of 2800 kg in their test. This is also evident from the the figures on the firewall. The max towball weight as determined by Hayman Reese in 2002 for one of their towbar models is 250 kg but this is inconsistent with the genuine Nissan original towbar figure which was 100 kgs but this Nissan towbar was also only rated at 2000 kgs.

I've towed around 2000kgs with the Terrano II and it goes beautifully. You must also remember that these Terranos were and are just about the toughest tow hacks in Europe where the big Landruisers and Patrols are less common, particularly in the UK, and many websites etc. show these cars towing big horse floats over there because there's not much bigger anyway.

Julie
10% total weight on the tow ball.

Does not matter if loaded or empty. So you may need a couple of trips to a weigh bridge to get it sorted.

Also check to see if there is a heavy duty towpack on your vehicle. The towbar should be stamped, mine is done on the main bar running between the chassis rails, and rated at 250 kg.

Friends of ours are travelling Oz, in their Terrano with a Pratliner Van and just love it. I helped them with a few of the tedious choors to get the weights right, and setting up their power ect

Cheers
Bucky

Thanks for the input - we love our Terrano and have towed our cmaper trailer for the llast 7 years with it very happily and easily. But as we get older - we are finding that maybe we need to get a bit more comfort - our trailer is basic - no built in kitchen etc - need to go outside to make breaky, when somemornings it would be lovely to be able to make it inside and stay in bed - especially when it is raining and cold, as we had on our recent trip to outback Qld - 36 hours straight with no let up around Hughenden - and more elsewhere -.
Anyway - you have given us info to work with, and a good starting point.
Knew we could rely on this forum.
