Hi
We are planning a trip to NT in October. The first few days are spent getting from
Adelaide to
the Rock.
Wondering if anyone can give us some information on the road that goes from
Kulgera to
Curtin Springs. This is the left turn just after the NT border but prior to
Kulgera that goes through Mulga
Park and comes out near
Curtin Springs.
Guessing I will be a bit fed up with the Black stuff by then and wondering whether this offers a reasonable alternative. We are towing a
Camping Trailer and have kids on board. I believe the road is unsealed, is it
well maintained?
Cheers
Steve

Steve,
I travelled over this road several years ago also towing a camper. Its one of those roads that has been graded so many times that the surrounding countryside is above the road. The road is kept in good condition because there is an aboriginal community at Mulga
Park. This road also comes fairly close to Mt Connor which gives you the chance to take some nice photos.

there is some beutiful scenery along that road. especially if you turn off down towards ernabella (pukatja) although then permits are required.
pretty good road, but watch the wandering cattle.

The road you speak of is the start of the original Gun Barrel hwy.
Get the book To Long In The Bush or the CD version.
Cheers Steve.

We travelled this road in 2004 as others have stated pretty good formed graded road, no problem towing our van along it. If 'Uncle' at Curtain Springs is still doing tours of Mt Conner its
well worth paying the $$$ as he has much local knowlege etc...
