removing rear spline from tailshaft

i want to remove the rear slide shaft from the tail shaft on my gu patrol
i have removed the 4 bolts attaching it to the diff but it wont slide out only moves in and out about 3cm
am i missing something or is there something wrong??

I am making a guess, but it is probably an air-lock (vacuum) caused by grease in the spline. Try removing the grease nipple to let some air into the joint.

Have you unscrewed the retaining collar....It functions as a scraper along the splines and to retain the two pieces together!

no didnt know there was one must be under the rubber boot seal is it?

Yep very likely! Slide the boot down and have a squiz and you will find a threaded collar that may take some effort to screw up to the yoke.

Just another point to remember.
Make sure that you mark all the bits so that you can reassemble them in the same alignment. Failure to do this can result in all sorts of problems. (vibration and excessive Ujoint wear in particular). Otherwise it's a straight forward job.
