Hi to all,
I have a 2006 2wd Hilux d/cab diesel with an open rear diff.I want a more traction from the rear going up slippery rocky driveways, boat ramps and the like, but 90 % of the time it is driven on sealed roads.Toyota has a lsd diff as an accessory option for around $1600,or am i better to fit a locked diff kit such as a Lokka,or something like a ARB air locker(i don't know what either costs).Pros and cons of all three options??
Any info or help much appreciated.
Roger.

My experience with Toyotas (I have a 4x4 Hilux and ran a Bundera for a while) is that their LSDs aren't worth much, plenty here will agree. I run a lokka in the front of my Hilux but wouldn't put one in the rear, don't like the idea of a locked rear and wet tar roads getting together. If you must lock your rear I'd go an Air locker, both ARB and TJM do them, I believe the TJM one is a bit cheaper and doesn't suffer the oil "blow back" problems that ARBs some times do.

G'day rogslux, not sure if the Toyota accessory you are talking about is standard on all the 4x4's, (and not 2wd) or the option is a better version of what us hilux fourby owners already have.

Anyhow, the LSD which came standard with my new 4wd hilux is next to useless. I had an ARB air locker fitted to the rear diff and it is probably the best piece of gear I own. I have heard the same system fitted to the front diff can effect handling and possibly cause problems for you, although I have not had personal experience.

Cheers,
Shep
