Afternoon all,
Are the loud signals that block all traffic on the VKS skeds radar or PBL?

The funny thing is that there seems to be no consistency when it occurs.

Cheers

John, what you are looking at looks like a whole lot of broad band dipoles that are fed in phase. they are broad band because of their cage structure that effectively increases the diameter of the antenna. Open wire feed is used as a phasing line.

PS. John, my eldest son negotiated that section of Burgoyne's Last November on his L plates. I was thinking at the time that it would be nice if cruisers had a better hand brake!

There is a big over-the-horizon-radar facility just outside the Alice, adjacent the Tanami Track - plus others at Longreach and Laverton - gives VKS quite a flog at times. Data transfer by military outfits at sea is blamed for a lot of the other heavy stuff too. Not sure that anyone knows what BPL sounds like for sure ..... yet ........

BPL
Go to the WIA website
www.wia.org.au/BPL/
There are two videos, one from Mt Nelson in Tasmania and the other produced by the ARRL in the USA.
