93 Navara
Afternoonall,
Have just sold my 2.7 diesel Navara a couple of days ago and have already received a call from the new owner. Apparently quite a bit of oil on the right hand wheel arch of the engine bay. Got him to send me a photo on my phone and believe it is oil from the diff/gearbox breather which is mounted up there. Think they come from the factory like that. Never had an issue with it and wondering what the cause would be.
There is no valve, just an open end where all three lines run into one. No noises at all in diffs, gearbox or transfer case when I had it. Unsure what the reason is, whether misuse (windup in 4wd) may have an effect, since I sold it. Look forward to your replies and advice.
Ben

He hasn't had a service done since bying it has he? Could be that the diff has been overfilled (hard to do due to where the filler is).

Could it be just like the Jeeps where if you drive them hard in an enviroment such as sand the oil boils over????

i had a 93 pathfinder, up to 95 they had the oil filler hole in the wrong place, them in the know new you had to over fill the box by 1.5lts. this could be the case if you had it serviced by someone other than you. this did cause frothing, another problem is the breather hose ends in the engine bay as stated but if it was to close to the lip on the fire wall it would suck
water back as the diff and box cooled down. this in turn caused frothing.

Had it serviced about 1 month ago but has done bugger all work, just a few short trips, prior to sale. Hoping they were overfilled. Also he bought it off me in Melb and drove it back home to
Mildura, which is about 6+ hours I think. Maybe it overheated on the trip awhilst being overfull. Heres hoping.
Thanks for the replies, Ben

sounds about right, as i said the diff breather sucks
water, and we have had a lot of
water lately, with a trip like that the oil would be evaporating the
water and could cause this, happen to
mine until i got the heads up on the breather and moved it back a bit.
