We are getting organised to take off after Christmas. Caravan and 4WD have been ordered. We are wondering what to do about Ambulance cover Australia wide - each State is so different - husband is a pensioner so we are covered in NSW
but apparently no where else - any advice would be greatly appreciated. We are not in a health fund - haven't been for years. Thankyou.

Billellen,

I think you will find that if you join your states ambulance subscriber system, that they have reciprocal arrangement with other states. I'm fairly certain that here in Vic, that is the case.

I'm sure a call to your respective service would answer the question.

Cheers,

Mark

Steve,

I have had my RFDS licence for many years and have continued to pay for it over the years, even though it is probably not necessary these days with the facilities provided by the VKS network. If you do want a licence, simply apply for one through the Dept of communications (or whatever they call themselves nowadays). The format of the callsigns has changed though to 3 letters, 3 numbers....ie ABC 123. 9VNE has been my callsign since about 1986 or so.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Mark

I think you can still buy Ambulance only cover from some of the medical funds.

HCF offer ambulance cover all states. About $65

Do you need ambulance cover if you are a pensioner?

The card holder is the only recipient to be covered for the transport charge and the way things are going you will probably only get a certain number of trips per year and then it will become user pays. We are becoming an acopic society, and not only are the ambos busier but the hospitals are bed blocked in the search for medical attention.

We have just taken out ambulance cover with Westfund for our outback trip because they cover you Australia wide, even the desert. Westfund are a NSW based company and their phone number is 1300 552 132. email enquiries@westfund.com.au. Fees were $20.15 per person - that's really cheap for cover wherever you are in Australia.
