Been checking the small print on the RACQ membership and it seems they will travel 40K to provide roadside service. Anyone had problems travelling the Cape where they needed assistance - if so how did you go ??

What are the other options if one has a severe break-down ??

DELUXE membership.
The NRMA paid to get a friends car back from Oodnadatta after it rolled, and paid some accommodation for them.

I suspect that was insurance NOT roadside assistance.

The first time we went to the Cape we applied for the top membership at RACQ - can't remember the cost but we did it for 1 year and then switched back to normal membership. Didn't bother this time around when we went to the Cape last month.

Between top cover RACQ and your insurance you should be right. Read up on the fine print on your insurance as well as we met one chap up there that put his fan into his radiator (100 series TD or V8) and cost to get back to Cairns was $2500 of which CGU were going to cover $500.

There are a lot of travellers up the Cape and a majority of them are extremely friendly and will help out where they can.

Regards
David

Agree, the top level RACQ saved me quite a few thousand. Broke down north of Broome and car and camper were carted back to Broome. At this point it went pear shaped as the RACWA guy tried to rip us off for repairs, wanted over $5k more than the nearest quote. Never had a drama with RACQ they footed the near $3k tow charge though weren't happy with the above agent and paid for accommodation. Being a gold member you get double the benefits up the same policy.

Hi
Member of RACQ for 5 years.
Trip to Darwin 12 months ago Paid RACQ top dollar.
Now all safe and happy as they will collect us from anywhere in Australia.

Front wheel bearing seized 30klm south of Nathan River (NT)
Rang RACQ ,No worrys be there within 2 hours.

Sure thing .rang back in half hour
Not sorry. 5 1/2 hours, $800 and no parts if we did get towed.

Rangers at Nathan River were great .We did not get towed RACQ Blaat.
Did not even swear yet .

Thanks Danny
