Hi all,
Anyone know of a good
camping spot (preferably beachside) not to far north of
Port Hedland. I am thinking either around the De
Grey river or 80 Mile Beach. Any suggestions? Have 4wd so rough tracks, beach driving ok. Prefer not to stay in a caravan
park.
Thanks!

Was thru there three weeks ago. 80 Mile is a great place to
park for a while but it is a caravan
park. Sites are large tho and the crowd good. DeGrey River may as
well have been a caravan
park as I counted nearly 40 seperate camps in the area with numerous generators. People set up for a long term stay rather than pay money at a caravan
park. Just remember that anything that says "free 24 hour stopping" and is by the highway will be crowded at this time of year. A lot of
Port Hedland locals swear by Cape Keraudren, particularly for the fishing but I have not been there myself. Otherwise it's
Port Smith or the eco resort a lot closer to
Broome. Everything else is prvate property (stations).
Good luck. Mick

Thanks Mick, I'll have a look into Cape Keraudren. Hopefully there wont be so many people around when I pass through in August! I will be staying
well clear of generators!!!

Heard that Pt Smith can be pretty thgick with sand flies and other bities.
80 Mile beach is a great spot and cheap as far as North West van sites go.

G'day Mick, unfortunately no. Had to turn down a trip through Kennedy Ranges and Mt Augustus, the GRR in September, and the one that I was really looking forward to was being a volunteeer with the Australian Safari. Had to say no to them all. Why couldn't it be next year. Oh
well, ##it happens.

Cape Keraudren will be packed. Lots of long term stayers, used to be a beautiful spot but it's ruined now.
