Have been having no luck logging onto wifi hotspots at McDonalds stores to check email etc. My laptop registers other wifi networks in area and I would probably just log onto those if I was a cad, but the they were locked out anyway...not that I tried (-; but doesn't pick up the telstra point. Having lots of discussions with the computer geeks at telstra but still no luck. Has anybody had this problem and been able to fix it, cheers Eric.

No. My laptop usually just sees them and off I go. I now have a 3G card for the laptop. Much easier.

Just saw in the news that the govt may require ID from those using internet cafes etc to reduce the opportunity for terrorists to communicate without being noticed.
I wonder if they (both the govt and the terrorists) realize how easy it is to jump onto the many, many unsecured wireless networks. Maybe this will be the next, (if not already using it), avenue for terrorists to use the internet anonymously.
More reason for those people with unsecured wireless networks to get their act into order.
