Hi all,
Wanted to know the easy way of rolling up bed end flies. We have just purchased some for our Goldstream Campervan, and struggled trying to put them back into the bag.

Any help, suggestions or additions would be muchly appreciated. There must be an easier way!!!

Cheers

The only suggestion I can make is to wait till the camper roof is down and then have a person on each end to do the rolling. Just let them hang after you have pushed the beds in.

Thanks . . . really appreciate your reply.

We did go at each end, but it seemed hard to try to manage to keep the sides under while we rolled the whole thing up.
I was thinking of putting some velcro on the sides and bring them up to meet the top so we can have it all under the top of the fly flat enough to roll them up together without the sides flopping out whilst we roll it. . . . I hope that all made sense to you !

We feel really silly that something so simple can bamboozle us ! :)

Thanks again

Were they on the van? They are a bugger at the best of times, but on the ground they are harder!

When they are brand new they are rolled up upside down, you will never get them in the bag the same way again. Fold the sides and end in, and roll up using the van to lean onto.

Otherwise it's just "practice makes perfect"

And no, there is no easy way of rolling them up!

Thanks, we were trying to roll it up upside down. Thought we might put it out of shape doing it the other way (which seems to be the right way). But after it was rolled, there was no shape except a huge mess!!!

thanks again for your advice. We will have to practice a lot :)

Hi Krissy,

We have a new Goldstream Star 2 with the bed end flies attched permanently in their bags.

For putting them away just let them hang once you have pushed the bed ends in and then wind down the roof. Once it is down just get one person on either side and fold the bottom piece of mesh over so that it is now on top of the roof of the fly and do likewise with both sides. Once you have done this both people need to roll them up fairly evenly.

The bags are pretty generous in size so they are easy to get back in. Once back in the bags do the ties up and then zip the bag shut. Once you do it a few times they are easy and will only take a few minutes each end.

One other tip we discovered is that if it is raining you leave your flies up fully while you push the beds in. Then release the poles holding the flies out just prior to lowering the roof and your beds will stay dry.

Hope you enjoy your camper.

Thanks for the suggestion. We will try this next time :) Especially if its raining.

We love the bed ends, they are made of the silver material, with really good shade cloth sides bordered by the silver material. Heard this helps keep in the warmth and keep out the heat. So happy about this :)

Sounds easy when its done in the manner you said, I guess we tried to roll up the sides whilst they were still underneath . .. wrong!
Thanks again for your comments.
Kris :)

Hi Kris,

We put in a spreader pole between the two upright poles, which we left in permanently. This gave a bit of a frame to wind the fly up on - I suppose the same principle as a roller blind wraps round a pole. It made winding them up easier, but it still wasn't a fun job.

Sorry, this sounds as clear as mud!!

Cheers,

Jeannie

Thanks for the excellent suggestion. Everyone who has replied has been more than helpful with their hints. That is why my partner and I love this forum. We will make up a spreader pole, it should help stabilise the flys as well when they are out. Anything to make life easier and more enjoyable when we are camping we will take on board.
Cheers, Kris.

Krissy,

Throw the sides in first and then the end. My wife and I have found this to be the easiest way of rolling them. Try and keep it tight and as small as you can when you are rolling.

Best of luck
