In travelling up the top end of oz, on the corrugated roads, my engine warning light has come on many times. Sometimes I get a flat spot below 2k revs.

The manual suggests it is either water in the fuel filter or a MAJOR problem. I have bled the fuel filter, (mostly air??), then it is alright for a couple huindred k's?

Any ideas?

Sounds like you have a recurring fault in the engine management system.

You should go to a dealer and get them to run the diagnostics over it.

Could be any one of a number of sensors giving the fault.

It could also be a faulty earth connection somewhere.

Which engine is it. The 3.00 or the 2.5

3 litre TD

All goes well after I bleed the filter, if I dont do that the problem gets worse, which why my thoughts were more to do with the actual filter and the bumpy roads?

ZD30 Engine light and loss of power under 2k sounds like EGR vavle to me. Was a common problem with the 3.0L patrols... Don't those Nissans have a water trap/fuel light on the dash?? Even a mitsubishi express diesel's got one of them along with the standard issue AM radio!

You shouldn't be getting air from the fuel filter when bleeding the filter. Disconnect the wiring plug from the fuel filter and see if the engine light comes on. You could have one of many problems with sucking in air from,

a crack in the fuel filter housing,

loose hose clamp on fuel line

a pin hole in the fuel line

blocked fuel fitler

"o" ring on the bottom of fuel filter

After checking these things and it hasn't improved i would replace the fuel line
from tank to filter.

cheers, Lance

vcbb,
How long ago was the filter changed? When I got my first filter I was also given a seal about the size of a 10 cent piece. Was told by Nissan it must be fitted whilst screwing on the filter or it will suck air??????
I did what I was told and have not had a prob with the fuel system.

vcbb & extfilm, My bet is
Yes air in the fuel, but could be from air sucking in from the fuel lines. I had a similar issue with my Patrol on my Cape trip. I replaced all the clamps on my fuel lines and no more problem.
