Is the "top hat" on the Troopy snorkels a filter, or just an omni-directional air intake?

Its cyclonic - it throws out the dirt - you can take it off and tip out the rubbish.

Thank you, have you any idea what size the mounting internal diameter is?
I was thinking they may be good on any
snorkel on very dusty Outback tracks.

Hi Shaker,
just took
mine off - it fits inside the
snorkel tube - OD is 85mm and ID is 80mm. Part No is stamped on it 17730-66010
Its got a bunch of vanes to spin the air, then when you stop, the dirt can fall out. And theres an arrow on top to tell you which way is the front.
I've never had a seriously dirty air filter, so I'd suggest it does work. The toyota
snorkel is purely there for dust - its not fully sealed, so is no good for
water, unless sealed with silicone.

Thanks again Phil, much appreciated, I am thinking of putting one on an AirTek
snorkel for Outback trips.
