We have a new Paramount van I have tried two types of hoses one a flat type the other a blue reinforced type but the water has a plastic taste.
Has any one had this problem ? and if so how can I fix it.
I enjoy this page Fred.

You need to use food grade hose, not garden grade.

If it's a new van you can get some taste from the tank also.

So if you are using food grade hose try filling your water tank about half full then dissolve about a kilo of Bi Carb soda in a watering can of water. Pour this into the tank and then fill it up the rest of the way.

leave it soak for a couple of days then drain and rinse the tank a couple of times.

Might help

True, hopefully they use food grade hose for all the internal plumbing.

Yep, I had to replumb some of my pipes at they had used black wrinkly pipe for water fill lines. The stuff you use for waste water pipes. Never know what they are up to till you get the van home and have time for a really good look.

I had some problems with the blue "water" hoses. It cut a long story short, the Hardy Pope brand blue water hose gave a plastic taste (its the shiny light blue hose). The Nylex brand braided, stiff, light blue hose leaves no taste whatsoever. I replaced every hose including filler and breather with the Nylex hose, and never have a problem with water taste.

Attach a filter to the hose or fit one inside the van under the sink and have a separate tap just for filtered water. Not only will it take the taste of plastic away but also the taste of bore water or some river water in bush towns. As the van is new you will appreciate the soft tasteless water for years to come.

we have kk and the water had a taste if the water sat in the hose for a couple of days more when u used the manual tap at the front, the taste goes away after a period of time if u use it a little more often it won't take as long.

Hi.
You will get this taste for a while regardless, the best thing to do is use bi-carb as already suggested, and follow up by adding a filter and you should be fine. s I am sure you already know it takes a while for this taste to leave new plastic, its the nature of the beast.
Good luck
Barry and Debbie.

My 6m light blue (with white fibre reinforcing) filling hose is fine (off the roll at Bunnings I think). The short hoses in the camper used for plumbing seem to be made of the same sort of pipe. Never had a taste in out tank - we always keep it full of tap water when not in use (no air) - replaced with rain water, just before we go on a trip. I bit of follow up fitting of quality short hoses by yourself will probably do the trick - the maker of the actual tank would be sure to class their tank as odourless ! If the hoses are the culprit, it would be sad though - usually caused by the van manufacturer never using their own product - probably never go caravanning - might know bugger all about it, even !
