Have read a few posts in relation to mounting a slide in the rear of an 80 but still haven't found what I'm after. Seems some mount their slide to ply and cut that to fit the rear of their car. I'm hoping to avoid that and mount it directly to the floor, hopefully without having to move the sub tank. Any advice please.
ps Want to avoid putting drawers in so I can sleep in the back

Have a look in my rig pictures. I made my own slide up which I am sure you could design to bolt into the mounting holes in the floor of an 80 (for tire downs povo pack or rear seats glx). Even if you need to teck screw them into the floor there is a fair gap between the floor and the subtank. As long as you dont use three inch teck screws you should be right.

Haven't lifted the carpet but don't the rear seats mount to the side?

Mate - the little seats mount off the side, but the bar things that the seats lock onto are held down by two bolts that you can use, and when you lift the carpet, you will find a couple of other welded nuts to tie down to (I think two of the tie downs). The drawers from the mob in Cairns use them and have held tight for 10 years on mine.

I used the same bolts when I made my dodgy drawers :-)) for my 80 series. There are four set of two bolts for the seats and four tie down points as well in the GXL, but I am not sure what the standard has - should have the tie down points as a minimum.

Lift the carpet and see what tie down points etc you have and then use them.

Use the child restraint bolt holes as well as the ones for the rear seats.

There are child restraint captive nuts on the floor too, but you don't need them for the drawers. I still have the restraints in, and use them via a couple of cunningly concealed openings in the slide and the shelf over the one drawer I have. All by design.

Be careful!
The right hand rear corner fixing point of your slide ( if positioning on the right hand side) does NOT! have a lot of room between your floor and sub tank as stated above. I originally fitted mine temporarily with tek screws ( no they werent long) and speared one right through my sub tank. I would not rely on tek screws and plan on taking out my subtank so I can fit it properly using body washers and/or welding nuts underneath. A bolt with a hook on it would make a better temporary fixing.

Cheers

I have recently purchased another 80 series, 1991 deisel with an after market turbo fitted (an essential by the way). The vehicle had a drawer system fitted, I cut a section out of the top of the system the length and width of my fridge, added tie down points to the base of the drawer, and there you have it, a ready made fridge slide inside the drawer. I still have 1 drawer and the fridge is the right height to use comfortably with some room inthe drawer behind the fridge.
Good luck with it.

Many thanks to all that replied. I'll lift the carpet tomorrow and have a good look. All being well I'll fit it later this week
