Dirty Weekends in South Queensland has a very good trip planner for that journey along with a great deal of others.

Haven't done it myself but plan to soon.

Last time I was there was about 7 weeks ago, at that time you can't do the beach run from double island point to rainbow you need to backtrack and take the inland track through freshwater and then back out onto the highway and then to rainbow

We came back this way from Fraser a couple of weeks ago. At dead low tide there was no beach at all. The errosion is so bad at the Leisha Track it was amazing. Having travelled this way most years since 1988 to Fraser although we had not done it for the last couple of years until this year we were shocked. You always had to watch the rocks but now you have to watch the corner at Double Island end of Rainbow. Also the camping area along Cooloola is now 50ks per hour so we think in future years on our trip to Fraser we will go and come back via the Cooloola Way as we found driving the stetch at 50 was not real enjoyable. We had people passing us as we were doing the correct speed limit and then when we got to the 80 the same person was doing 65- 70 in a 80 zone.
Of course conditions change from tide to tide and month to month. Closer to the time ring the rangers at Rainbow and they will tell you how the beach is at the time.
Cheers
Robyn

Yup it's been like that for ages now. We normaly go up that way at least once a month. You can actualy go all the way to the right again now and drive all the way to the point.

It wasnt all that cold a couple of weeks ago. We used our Cobbs as heaters under the table at night while we ate and played cards and poker. We used hot water bottles in the bed. They were not needed but it was nice to get into a warm bed. In fact the doona was a bit warm during the night and I slept with a leg out in the open to cool me down at times.

last i heard the 'lesiha track' (the short track that joins Teewah and Rainbow beaches) is closed, though there are also conflicting stories, best bet would be to ring the rangers at Rainbow Beach.

Have a great trip

Well I am always on the beach ,about 30 - 35 Ks up the Beach the last time I used the double Island Point cross over Last Feb, there was only just room for one car at low tide on Rainbow side ,& a 20 feet almost straight up from the Rainbow beach side & very soft Sand. Last weekend I spoke to the Rainbow beach suppliers & the Lake is starting to form again on the rainbow side. Most times they use the Freshwater Inland road .I will be up there next week & I am going to have a look will post Monday Week. I will on the beach this weekend Sunday to when ever.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh yes the peace & quiet ..... just do not go on a weekend, the taffic is insane. And to top it off you will have to avoid topless girls laying on the beach tanning (maybe not at this time of year). Have you ever tried to keep your eyes on the road and a topless girl at the same time? You need eyes in the back of your head....
