Hi all,
Just wondering if any others have some across their near new Undien ( in car ) giving up the ghost?
Mine has fried again. Replaced it 18 months ago with the same one on advice from electric bug here in
Adelaide.
I am off to buy an Icom 400 pro. Learnt this lesson the hard way

What model? My Uniden UH-088 gets plenty of use and after 4 years has not missed a beat. Also their after sales service is brilliant. I have dealt with them with an issue with a cordless phone and have nothing but praise for them. Just my experience.

This is all we need Doug will be on here soon for his two bobs worth about Uniden :)
Was it a Uniden problem or a wiring fault?
Cheers Kev

Hey Kev,
Been through the wiring, checked it backwards for surges or shorts. Low power feed isn't it.
It's got the 'scream' and nothing coming up on the display.

Hey Jason.
Have you checked the aerial, if you have connection or SWR issues this will cause em to die slowly. Especially if there are no supply problems.Hope this may help.
Cheers 4 now

Yeah , father in law has SWR tester. We found no feedback. Aerial is getting out at almost the full 6db.
Cheers

My uniden, popped a fuse one day, so I wrapped it in foil as I needed the radio that day. 6 months later I still had not replaced the fuse as I forgot about it and it stopped working, found the recipt sent it of for warrenty, came back no questions asked and works a treat still 2 years later. They have a 2 year warrenty and you say you replaced 18 months ago, get them to fix it for free and sell it to recoup some of the cost of the new one.
Cheers Stefan

My ancient uniden from the auction house fifteen years ago still works but I had to replace the contacts under the buttons (twenty cents each and and an hour or so playing with the soldering iron).
It may not be the antenna as the man said but that is the first thing to check. A bad connection or wrong cut antenna will
cook the final transistors they say.

My uniden ended up in the garbo.. Had GME since never had a problem.. you will have no issues with the ICOM, they arent a Aldi special.

The Icom 400pro is a good robust little radio, but the audio on transmit is very average compared to Unide or GME.
The 400pro has programable chanels and power. My 2cents worth.

The father in law's icom 400 pro used to get out right over the top of my Uniden. The front mount speaker is a nice thing as
well. I have been running a remote speaker on the old one.

Thankyou to all that has put in thier bit.
I was just amazed that I have gone through 2 personally and my father in law one. All of them went the same way. Got the Shriek with nothing on the screen. Tested the lead and aerial both times together with the power supply. The fault has always been with the radio.
Call me old fashioned but I do expect to only buy one every 10 years or so. Twenty if I was not an avid 4wder.
