i don't want to get into should/ should not use one please. the way i see it is, they are designed to kill two birds with one stone. the first part is to move the adjustable ball part up or down to get the van level, then you have the second part that helps move the load to the front
wheels by the two bars.( remember not disputing should/ should not use one.) so if your van and vehicle are already level, then you should just be able to use the bars (round ones) to do the same thing. comments please,

Shane, I use the Haymen Reece 250kg ones so perhaps I'm biased but I think you'll find the round bars will only shift up to about 90kgs in towball weight and that would be for the 4 bar setups, the 2 bar ones will shift less towball weight.
I've used my WDH on both my old Pajero and my GQ and I've tried towing without it also. It gives a much better feel with it on and although it may be subjective the car and caravan feel like one big unit with it on compared to a heavy weight pitching the nose of the car up and down without it.
I bought my WDH 2nd hand from the
Melbourne Trading Post it is the second generation one with the adjustable cam angle so you can adjust the angle of the towball so it's vertical.

I have never used the round ones Shane, but agree with Andrew.The Hayman
set up comes with easy to follow & simple instructions in order for you to not only get your rig level, but I believe very importantly it allows you to accurately distribute the tow ball weight on all four
wheels.This is important because it gives you back the correct steering and braking capabilities. Safe travelling. Regards, Barry
