For that money you could be purchasing a 4.2TD of a similar year. Stronger gearbox too.

pjp,

I bought one 3 years ago for the same money and about the same K's. Quite happy with the vehicle so far, now has 200K's on it, and should handle the trailer OK, as long as you don't expect to break any speed records. Most of the 40k's done with mine have been on the front of a Pioneer Onyx in WA and head-winds would be its biggest downfall.

As Brew is suggesting, it sounds a bit expensive now, so do plenty of homework before you spend your bucks.

Good luck,

G'day,

For a start way over priced, I bought my GU 2.8 a year ago with 114,000km's
TJM bar
Kamar rear bar
Snorkel
Duel battery's
Warn winch
Spotties
service history
ect
I paid $20,000 even down from their $23,000 asking price

It will tow the camper fine, just don't expect to set any land speed records

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY make sure it has had all its services if the coolant has been neglected you WILL have head issues with it. They are a very fussy motor in regards to the coolant, so pay extra attention to that area, The radiators like to go around 100,000km mark so check that out.
On the good side, drive them right and they are a quiet, smooth car to drive. Keep the revs up on them and they go rather well, will cruise at 120kph all day

In regards to the gearbox dept....they are the same box as the 300z nissans so no issues with the strength there.

People regard them as the poor cousin to the 4.2's so re-sale is shyte, but that means you should get a good price to buy one.

Some were on e-bay the other week and they didn't sell at $12,000 so thats food for thought.

In all I am VERY happy with mine and look after it with services and it is serving me well.

Hope that helps
Cheers Stefan

G'day truckster, the link you provided on a post a while ago was for a very high KM DX. ST's with good KM'S still fetch better prices than $13,000. I will admit not $22000. But they still try.

This link is from the dealer I bought mine from last year

2.8 patrol

Cheers Stefan

I tend to agree with both of you in a way. Pezza was trying to sell his 2.8 last year for months at 17K and no takers. It was/is in good nick but has high K's. It is in every way an honest rig to my knowledge, so the vehicle I won't argue about, still not my choice but would suit some.

$22K is far too much for one of these even if granny drove it to church every Sunday and it had less than 100K on the dial IMO.

Regards, Trevor.

Hi pjp, for those dollars you should be looking at a 4.2 diesal, you will find it to tow a lot easier and the 4.2 has proven itself over many years. If you can take a 2.8 for a drive i.e put it in a steep drive way and try to drive out, forward or reverse there will be a lot of clutch riding, under 2000revs and you will go no where. Towing a camper of 1 tonne will be fine on long flat roads but give it a head wind and a hill you will have to flogg the be jessus out of it. Col
