My Hilux had a
Beaudesert Exhaust System fitted, about 10,000km ago. Exhaust place in Frankston had a dreadful time fitting it as he stripped a nut at the back of the turbo and had to take all sorts of stuff off around it to get the standard dump off to fit the new set up. Tried to charge me triple the quote. Anyway, I seem to have developed an exhaust leak since coming home from Warraweena. Can here it under low load mainly. Bit tractor like. QUESTION?? Is there danger of damaging anything if I drive car til I can get it fixed soon. I had a look underneath. Couldn't see any problem.

Only prob with leaky exhausts is co3 getting in the cab and sending you to sleep or killing u.
I never heard of it happening and maybe its rare circumstances that allow it to happen but something to be aware of. If you aint dead by the time this message arrives you be ok.
you have to laugh, ay.

Hi Twinkles,
An exhaust leak will make your motor run leaner as back pressure is reduced. This in turn will cause excess heat to build up in the motor and can cause damage to the valves - I know as it happened to my Hilux and cost $3000 for a top end rebuild

Hi Ozwasp,
Not so. I believe you are talking about a petrol engine, not a diesel. The effects of exhaust back pressure, changes to A/F ratios, etc. are very different between petrol and diesel engines. You might like to look here to learn more.
