I will have (in a couple of weeks) a 23' Jayco Sterling van. I will be towing it with a 3.0lt TD Nissan Patrol. I plan to buy a Hayman Reese weight distribution hitch but not sure which one. Should I buy the 550lb or 750lb version? It seems to me that with a fully loaded 23' sterling van the weight will be right on the borderline between the capacities of the two types of hitches. Does anyone have experience with this setup and if so what would their recommendation be? Really would appreciate any advice.

Hi Montereykeys,
I would go and buy the caravan mags from the newsagency and see if they have any articles on what you want, and also to get web addy's for caravan
forum's. This way you can post your question to more people, as quite a few people will probably be on the road touring at the moment.
Personally I would buy the 750lb as it seems like you will be at the limit of the 550lb. (If this is wrong hopefully someone will correct me)
This way you will have some room to move.
Maybe ask Hayman Reese or the caravan manufacturer.

Hi Monte
We purchased a new caravan in late 2006, we bought the complete package,
the dealer installed all the towing equipment and the brake controller ect,
and allso wired in the anderson plug, he recommended the 750 version.
all this was at cost price.
Cheers

Hi Mo,
We have a 24 ft sterling and we use the 750 wdh. The caravan sales yard from whom you are purchasing your van should have the complete set up for sale and will know xactly what is right for you. They will also fit it for you. If this is not the case then your Hayman Reese dealer surely will. PS nice van; Im sure you will love it as we do ours. Happy travelling.
