Hi All,

Warranty on the Nissan runs out soon and am looking at extended warranties.

If you know of any good ones that run for 4-5 years and their approx cost it would be appreciated to hear from you.

Don't worry about the Nissan one as that only goes for 2 years. Thanks P&J

Hi,
Many are just insurance policies, make sure that you read and understand all the SMALL print before you sign anything.

Some have a list of exclusions/conditions as long as your arm and in my opinion, these are not worth considering.

Having said all that, it's up to you to determine whether it's worth buying for your circumstances.

The Nissan one is good. Well worth the money in my experience.
Ask yourself what YOU would cover and how many caveats you would build into a policy if you were to cover someone's truck for another 5 years.
Cheers

Agreed. The Nissan warranty also gives you the 24 hour assist. Good if the thing bombs out on the CSR.
Even got my money's worth out of it with my TD4.2 GU. 5th gear and two turbos.

hl, I am reavaluating my thoughts on the Nissan Extended Warranty currently as they are telling me the age of my Nissan at 5 years and the distance travelled at less than 100,000kms may be responsible not a manufacturing fault. I have to justify my claim for $4,600 or parts and labour. Two dealerships seem to be agast at the Nissan suggestion. My own dealer and the one who has done the work. I can't say too much as it may have some time to run my arguments.

PandJ I shall find out a bit more tomorrow but I understand that the recovery from Warraweena would have cost over $1000 by the time of the second calling. I paid for the Nissan one and the mail bearing on the pinion shaft failed. They don't fail by all accounts, so it must have been Friday diff! :-((((

It is now illegal for a manufacturer to sell an extended warranty unless it is purchased with the vehicle. A new ruling has been made that classes all extended warranties purchased after the initial purchase of the vehicle as actually insurance policies not warranties. This means that the vehicle manufacturer must be registered as an insurance agent etc. Thats why we are seeing a flood of extended warranty policies from people like RACV and Wizard etc.

Risk and reward is what the warranty is all about Grizzle. The cost was about $1200+ from memory. $1000 for the recovery, $2000 for the diff centre PLUS fitting and a possible $300 for car hire to get me home sounds good warranty for my insurance.

I agree John,

I am not questioning the reasoning. Just highlighting the fact that the "Factory" extended warranty can only be purchased at the time of vehicle purchase.

I should also say that I purchased a 6 year 150K extended warranty when I bought my new Nissan.

the nissan extended warranty is underwritten by swan insurance. I recently bought a 3yr 150k extended warranty before the original warranty ran out.

Hi All,
Thanks for the info above, I was lead to believe that the one I was looking at was SWAN which cover the NISSAN one anyway. Tommorrow I will hopefully know more. Thank You all for your time etc. Cheers P&J
