My wife had a clean out cupboards day, ( glad i was out) , and came across a letter in a box of tricks, that was addressed to her grandfather in about 1945. It read as such, To the man who lives not far from ' Pauls Hill' Holgate, and drives an old green chev . It was a note of thanks from a couple that he helped out on the side of the road with their broken down vehicle. Imagine a letter addressed like that in the Australia post system to-day?....lol.

Cheers Axle.

Yep,times have changed and the letter would end up in the dead letter box. A lot of people haven't changed though, we have helped motorists on the side of the road & they are always very appreciative of assistance. Let us hope these sort of people will always be about in this great country.

This sort of thing still happens to this day, I am a postman and we get all sorts of weird addressed items in the post everyday. In most cases there is one part of the address that can identify the area it is meant to go. Most posties have been doing there beat for years and know the names, cars people drive, colour of houses ect of the residents on their beats and love to take on the challenge of delivering that IMPOSSIBLE letter. It just doesn't make the head lines. Unlike a media beat up like "today Tonight" likes to run.
One memorable one recently was some one posted an un-sealed envelope with $8000 cash in it by mistake with only a surname and first initial on it. With in 24 hours it was returned to its rightful owner with all cash still there. The media isn't interested in those stories.
Sometimes it goes wrong, billions of times it doesn't. We do handle around 8 billion articles a year

Didn't think you were mate, just giving everyone a little incite to the real AP not the one the Media portrays.
