I am planning a fraiser trip. I would like to go after christmas but really have no idea of the peak times. An alternative is somewhere during jan or possibly feb. I would really like to know the best times to go to avoid crowds as much as possible. Thanks.

Fraser doesn't really have a 'season'
Easter weekend and the xmas-New Year period would be the busiest (oh and Australia Day when the clean up is on) outside of that, if you want to avoid crowds, just keep heading north (or west).
If you really want to see the touristy
places like Lake McKenzie, get there first thing in the morning, or leave your truck at Central and hike up and do a lightweight night in the hikers
camp.
cheers

We used to go up every Jan till it got out of control, numbers. We found the last week of Jan School holidays to the best but still crowded. Went 1st week of Jan one year and the 4wd's were litteraly parked 3 deep at
Eli Creek.

Anytime outside the holidays. My pick is October/November, or July/August if your into Tailor fishing.

Have just got back from Fraser on Thursday (9 nights on the Island). First time and it was sensational. Clear blue skies, 20 Deg + every day. Cool in the evening. We had no problems with Sand Flies Mossies or March Flies. There was a lot of backpackers but they are fairly limited to where they can go. We spent a couple of nights right at the top of
Sandy Cape. Sensational. The first week was Queensland School Holidays but it really did not seem to make much difference.
Would love to go back and could have spent another week at least.
I would imagine it would be pretty hot in Jan-Feb but you are by the
water so it should be good.
Good luck

Hi Linda,
Anywhere on the East Coast. we looked at
Central Station, Dilli Village etc but they looked ugly fenced in and
Central Station was very cool compared to the rest of the island. We free camped the whole time. Two nights just North of
Eurong (Close enough to whizz down in the morning to the
bakery for bread and coffee!!!) One night just South of
Eli Creek (pronounced eeelii). One near
Happy Valley. Two at
Orchid Beach, Two at the Cape (Highlight of the trip) and one back down near
Eurong. I haven't got my maps at work but I will bring them in and give you the names of the
camp areas. We had no problems with Dingoes as we took a lockable rubbish tub and put it on the roof rack each night. We also left no food out and made sure the barbie was wiped down, also all dishes were washed and put away. Even flicking some left over fat on the ground will bring them in. We did see them when we were cooking but we had no issues. The Rangers are very particular about those issues and will fine you if you transgress. (I will say they were very friendly and helpful to us). Campfires are banned so it did tend to cool down at night.
Cheers
