LMAO, what are you talking about? The d4d or the 1kz-te? The 1kz-te has been around since 1993 and has had no issues, I've got one that's 12 years old and has nearly 200,000ks on it with no problems.

The heads only crack if you overheat them. The trouble is people don't service their cooling system reguarly and the factory temperature guage doesn't move from half until AFTER you have overheated them. There is nothing wrong with the head if you maintain it correctly and even better install and aftermarket temp guage.

ppk, I have a mate who has just done the same thing at 70,000. From him my understanding is that the replacement block has the modifications of the later model which included more oil reserse and oil injected to the underside of the pistons. It appears that they have fixed the problems as of 2003??? So he thinking is, he's paid the money (the 4,000), they have a bad resale value as a result of the problems, the engine should now be reliable and otherwise he really likes the unit. So he going to keep it as though he's traded to a later model. Just a thought. Paps.

Besides you'll get nothing for it anyway.

The 2000 models had oil squirters to the underside of the pistons from new. I have pulled these things down.
PPK you shouldn't be paying anymore than about $1500 for labour. Nissan gets these engines for around $4000.00 so they are covering their costs by charging you.
Still most are refusing helping on the earlier ones now as they are getting to old and too far out of warranty.
Try my website in my profile. I have a nissan page there that may be of some help.

BTW later ones are still going bang so it isn't fixed. I get phone calls of this problem from all over Australia every week due to people searching on the web and finding my webpage. Most are asking for help and also asking why. I can't answer their questions.
